Emily Godley has secured gold with a shocking execution win the ladies’ 75kg weightlifting, beating Games record-holder and ruling champion Marie-Eve Beauchemin-Nadeau of Canada.
With Godley’s enormous triumph, she asserts Team England’s first gold award in weightlifting at the Gold Coast, following on from Sarah Davies silver decoration winning lift prior in the day in the ladies’ 69kg.

Posting a huge 96kg in the grab, the most elevated in the last, she expected to lift 126kg in the Clean and Jerk to beat the Canadian who rose as the main danger, and she did. What’s more, not just this, she was the main rival to finish a lift on each and every endeavor, relentlessly enhancing each time, blasting far from the pack. She set an aggregate score of 222kg, one more than Beauchemin-Nadeau who had cut the shortage in the Clean and Jerk.
Godley’s triumph sees her enhance radically to her fifth place complete in Glasgow in 2014, and raises Team England’s decoration count to 10 for Day 4, including four golds.
Emily said: “It feels amazing to be on top of the podium, I can’t ask for more, I feel like I’m dreaming actually. It hasn’t sunk in properly yet. I’ve been training and gaining body weight sine I finished 4thin Glasgow and it’s paid off, this is what I’ve dreamt of and I have just accomplished it.”

I was a Pole Vaulter and I had to do some weightlifting as part of my S&C. Keith was my coach for this and he persuaded me to change sports.
